Spearhead: The Most Affordable Way To Play Warhammer

Spearhead: The Most Affordable Way To Play Warhammer

With the launch of Age of Sigmar 4th Edition, a new format of the game will be released: Spearhead. In this much smaller and faster form of Age of Sigmar you vie for control of a small board-game sized battlefield with your opponent and your fantastical armies. Gamers Grove is excited to introduce you all to the newest and fastest way to play Warhammer yet.

What Do I Need To Play?

Getting into Age of Sigmar is easier than ever now that Spearhead exists! Simply buy a Vanguard or Spearhead box, build and paint the models inside, and you have COMPLETE Spearhead army. That’s right, ONE box gets you an entire force to play Spearhead with. For any of you folks who grabbed a Vanguard box a few years ago, built it, but never quite got around to building a full 2000-point AoS army… you now have a complete Spearhead force!

Past the models you’ll need an official spearhead board which comes with built in primary objective markers (or the space to set up some objectives on a board of the same size), a set of Spearhead cards, and some dice!

Why Should I Play Spearhead?

Spearhead is a great game mode for new players to get acquainted with Age of Sigmar’s rules and for folks with busy lives who still want to play Warhammer but don’t have a ton of time. The armies are smaller, the rules are streamlined, the game board fits on your kitchen table, and the time it takes to run a match has been practically cut in half.

Spearhead is now officially the fastest, smallest form of Age of Sigmar ever made.

Twisty Turns and Secondary Missions

One of the ways Age of Sigmar was simplified to fit the vision of Spearhead is through cards (much like 40k’s cards). Every round you draw from the Twist deck to see what exciting and random effect magically impacts the game state. Maybe this could be a unit getting wrapped in lively vines or perhaps disruptive magic turns off your timely ward saves! Twists are random but always are dictated by the underdog (the player with the fewest victory points).

Beyond the Twist deck, there are also Secondary mission cards that players draw each round and can score throughout their turns. Each completed mission scores you a victory point however… these missions have a second half to their cards: commands! You can choose to use a mission card’s command half instead of scoring the mission to interact with your opponent!
